We would like to draw your attention to the start of our courses from September 10. We already have a large number of au pairs who have registered for a course, but we also know that there are often still people who register just before the start of the course.

At this moment there are already a number of courses full and to avoid disappointments it is a good idea to register for a course as soon as a family knows that the au pair is coming to the Netherlands and also wants to learn Dutch. The au pair will then have access to the online preparation course. Should anything unexpected change before the start of the course prevent the au pair from participating, we will refund the course fee in full.

Income from renting out properties

The income from the rental of, for example, apartments falls under the income from personal assets to which the following applies in accordance with Chapter B1/4.3.3.3: The IND considers income from personal assets of the foreign national on the basis of Article 3.75(2) Vb to be sustainable if it has been available for one year at the time of the application (or the assessment of the application) and is still available. The income from own assets is sufficient if the benefit from the basis savings and investments, as reported to the Tax Administration for the fiscal year preceding the application, is at least equal to the applicable standard amount.

Au Pair Abuse Hotline

The IND notes that au pairs regularly call the hotline abuse au pair with complaints about the host family, such as the food is dirty, my host parents are noisy, etc. However, these are complaints for which the Au Pair Abuse Hotline is not intended.

We would like to ask you to once again bring to the attention of au pairs and host families that it is important for the au pair to first discuss any questions and/or complaints with the host family and contact the au pair agency. If the au pair agency cannot or will not help, the au pair can contact the hotline for au pairs at 06-10823594. In serious cases, such as abuse or exploitation, the au pair can of course also call the hotline directly or go to the police.

Work that requires a specific skill set.

We would like to point out that an au pair is not allowed to perform any task for people who need more than special care or who require a specific skill. An au pair is not allowed to help put on support stockings, administer medication or carry out any other nursing tasks.

Directive (EU) 2016/801 on the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for the purposes of research, study, internships, volunteering, pupil exchange, educational projects or Au Pair activities

This Directive shall apply to third-country nationals who apply to be admitted or who have been admitted to the territory of a Member State for the purposes of research, studies, traineeships or voluntary service within the framework of European Voluntary Service. Member States may also decide to apply the provisions of this Directive to third-country nationals who apply to be admitted for the purposes of pupil exchange or an educational project, volunteering other than European Voluntary Service, or au-pai activities. J&V chose not to apply it to the au pair policy. This is because the Directive includes a "can do" provision (Article 2 of the Directive), which allows member states to choose to exclude target groups. The Netherlands has made use of this as far as au pairs are concerned. As a result, the Directive has no further consequences for Dutch au pair policy. However, the Directive will be implemented for other target groups

Online Appointment Planner available for all IND desks

From Monday, February 12, 2018, for all IND desks, with the exception of the Expat Centers, for the products and services listed below an appointment can be made online with the Online Appointment Planner (OAP). Now it only applies to the counters in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam. From then on, it will no longer be possible to make an appointment by phone.

The OAP is available in both Dutch and English.

Appointments can be made online for the following products and services:

- Biometrics (passport photo, fingerprints and signature)

For the residence document, the IND requires a passport photo, fingerprints and a signature.

- Collecting a residence document

The IND will send the au pair (or you as sponsor) a message when the au pair can pick up his/her residence permit or original documents, such as passport or birth certificate.

- Sticker residence endorsement

A residency endorsement is a sticker placed in the au pair's passport.

The sticker is proof that the au pair in the Netherlands is allowed to await your procedure. This also states if he/she is allowed to work.

- Return visa

Does the au pair want to travel abroad and temporarily does not have a valid residence permit? If so, the au pair sometimes needs a return visa to travel back to the Netherlands.

For Biometrics and residence document collection, although it is not (yet)

required to make an appointment. But, please allow for longer wait times and

the possibility that the au pair may not be helped if he/she makes an appointment without an

IND counter visits.

Mvv applications and issues Brazil

MVV applications and issues can now only be made at the Consulate General in Sao Paulo. It is no longer possible to do so through Brasilia or Rio de Janeiro.

Change IND application exchange Au Pair "Entry date Au Pair"

As of January 1, the IND introduced a change regarding the arrival date of the au pair.

In the digital application, we only have two options left to enter as arrival date.

• Entry date known
• Entry date unknown
• Entry date known. Do we fill in the date of arrival, before the time the au pair cannot travel to the Netherlands, everything after the specified date can. The arrival date we pass for example March 1 then her year permit will start and she will leave February 28, 2019.
• Entry date unknown. If we do not fill in anything in the digital application and at the moment her MVV is issued by the Dutch embassy in country of origin then her annual permit starts immediately.

SNAPS recommends is entry date to be known (do keep deadline if application is submitted by us of 4- 6 weeks* after arrival au pair)

*Applications for au pairs from the Philippines always take longer as they have to attend a CFO seminar after their MVV is issued.

Review and retain copy or original documents

During the workshop that we (Super Nanny Au Pair Services, at the IND) had, it became clear that there is a lack of clarity as to whether we (SNAPS), as an authorized sponsor, are allowed to receive copies of documents from host families and au pairs. As an authorized sponsor we need to receive and check the original employer's declaration, declaration of income as a self-employed person and the extract from the Basic Registration of Personal Data. This is to exclude any possibility of fraud.

Occupation by an au pair of an outbuilding

Regularly the IND receives signals about housing of an au pair in an annex, such as in a garden house, a converted garage, storage room or shed etc. This type of housing without the legal status of residential use is not allowed.

Within the framework of the exchange nature of the au pair arrangement, the au pair must be included in the host family. In accordance with laws and regulations, this means that the au pair must be part of the host family and must also live at the address of the host family and be actually registered here.

If an au pair is housed in an annexe and a building permit has been granted for this purpose but the annexe does not have the legal status of a residential destination, the au pair may not be housed here. However, if the building has been assigned residential status and this room is also part of the host family's address and the au pair is registered at the same address, then the au pair is allowed to live there. This also applies to all other forms of living space such as a garden house, storage room or shed, etc.

Change working method entry date for au pairs

With the information notice (2017/3) of June 21, 2017, SNAPS was informed of a change in the procedure of the (expected) entry date for au pairs. From several au pair agencies we have received reactions about this. The IND understands the concerns expressed in the responses and the questions that remain. Therefore, we will once again explain this decision below.

It turned out that, despite repeated requests for attention, in only 14% of the cases the agreement to notify the date of entry more than three weeks before the actual entry was observed. This led to an undesirable situation, namely that an au pair ended up in the host family for too long without a residence permit and possibly already performing work. Furthermore, the IND also opted to bring this working method, which only applied to exchange au pairs, in line with the applicable laws and regulations and therefore no longer offered the possibility to first only report an expected entry date and later the final entry date.

The above means that SNAPS now retains two choices for the effective date of the residence permit as prescribed by the policy: either the choice of one day after issuance of the mvv or of the entry date you indicate on the application form (provided that this entry date still falls within the period of validity of the mvv). If you choose the first option (one day after the issuance of the mvv), you obviously do not have to fill in an entry date in the application form. The application form will be adjusted accordingly.

The responses received to the information notice (2017/3) do not lead to a different decision. However, since the IND is well aware that this change will bring about a change in SNAPS business operations, it has been decided not to abolish this working method immediately but to take a generous transition period for this until January 1, 2018. This will give SNAPS sufficient opportunity to adjust your working method and business operations accordingly.

Standard amounts

The standard amounts under Wml are revised every year on January 1 and July 1 by the Minister of SZW and published in the Government Gazette. The standard amounts are therefore valid until a new standard amount is published by the Minister of SZW. The following are the Wml standard amounts as they apply from January 1, 2018.

Standard fees au pair:

What should the host family earn?

For the host family, the above amounts are supplemented by 50% of the minimum wage for married couples:

-including vacation pay: € 1704.24 : 2 = € 852.12

-excluding vacation pay: € 1578.00: 2 = € 789.00

The standard amounts for the host family are as follows:

-Standard amount married couples or registered partners + standard amount au pair (50%) including vacation allowance: € 1704.24 + € 852.36 = € 2556.36

-Standard amount married couples or registered partners + standard amount au pair (50%) excluding vacation allowance: € 1578.00 + € 789.00 = € 2367.00

-Standard amount single person or single parent + standard amount au pair (50%) including vacation allowance: € 1192.96 + € 852.12 = € 2045.08

-Standard amount single person or single parent + standard amount au pair (50%) excluding vacation allowance: € 1104.60 + € 789.00 = € 1893.60

Gross standard amounts

The standard amounts in the context of Wml = Minimum Wage and Minimum Holiday Allowance Act are revised every year on 1 January and 1 July by the Minister of Social Affairs and Employment and published in the Government Gazette. Because the IND is based on the standard amounts of the WML, you should take into account that the standard amounts will change on 1 January and 1 July.

(SV) Amounts

The above amounts are gross amounts. For income from salaried employment, the sv wage is considered. This is the wage on which social insurance contributions are calculated. The sv wage can be found on the pay slip and is sometimes also referred to as wage for the Healthcare Insurance Act (ZVW) or wage for payroll tax (taxable wage). The income must be available for at least 12 months from the time the application is filed.

• What kind of extract do you need to apply for to do the exchange au pair application? SNAPS has made inquiries at several municipalities. It appears that extracts are free of form and do not have an unambiguous name. The point is to clearly indicate to the municipality what should be on it. Based on that question an extract is made.

• The Hague: Family extract for housing allocation family
• Original or copy? SNAPS should receive the excerpt original and by email.

BRP explanation if the municipality cannot figure it out

The following must clearly appear in the BRP: that you are all registered at the same address (housing allocation family), can be done via DigiD, must not be older than 3 months. Note there must be registered at this residential address, NOT registered.

Relocation of IND office in Hoofddorp

In July 2017, the Hoofddorp IND office will move to Amsterdam

The Hoofddorp counter will move to the Amsterdam IND counter as of July 1, 2017. Thursday, June 29, 2017 is the last day you can visit the IND counter Hoofddorp. After this date, we will be happy to assist you at our Amsterdam counter.

Relocation of IND office Rijswijk

The Rijswijk counter will close on June 29, 4:00 p.m. and will open its doors in The Hague on July 4, 2017 at Rijnstraat 8 in The Hague. Also for this counter, you can find the opening hours and directions to the IND counter The Hague in due course at www.ind.nl under the heading Contact/Loketten, kantoren, aanmeldcentra/Loketten.

^2nd TB examination

It sometimes happens that an au pair is requested to undergo a^2nd TB test. For the IND it is only an obligation to do a TB test during first admission (if applicable). However, it sometimes happens that during this first screening something comes up that the doctor wants to monitor, and therefore the person can be called to come in again after 6 months for a (2nd) screening. So, basically treatment. Therefore, the advice is that the au pair should not ignore the call from GGD doctor and should comply with this call.

Hand in residence document au pair after her au pair year

The residence document is the property of the Dutch government and must be handed in as soon as or after the foreign national departs from the Netherlands. The residence document can be handed in at the nearest IND desk (Schiphol Airport) or sent to:

If you send the residence document please invalidate the documents by e.g. cutting or perforating it. Please do not cut all the way through.

Deadline for issuing mvv in passport

The IND tries to make a decision on a completely submitted TEV application within 2 weeks. After a positive decision by the IND, the mvv must be issued. The IND will send the positive decision on the TEV application to the Dutch representation for which the sponsor has indicated in the application form that the mvv will be picked up there.

It depends on the Dutch representation how quickly the mvv sticker can be issued. Not all representations stick an mvv sticker in a passport themselves. If the diplomatic post falls under a Regional Service Organization (RSO), the issue of an mvv or visa takes approximately 2 weeks longer. This is because the foreign national's passport is first sent from the representation to the RSO. At the RSO, the mvv is placed in the passport and sent back to the representation. You can, before submitting the TEV application, check with the representation itself whether it falls under an RSO. This will help you determine the (expected) entry date of the au pair. Also take into account possible delays that may occur when making an appointment at the representation to pick up the mvv.

Au pairs from Indonesia/Thailand/ Philippines

As of February 2016, the visa process in Indonesia has changed. After the interview with the embassy, the application is first sent to Kuala Lumpur, and then back to the Dutch embassy in Jakarta. This was already in place for the Philippines and Thailand . This process now takes about 10 days.
